I have discovered a problem with 7.10 (last update.) Connected the Apogee Duet FireWire sound card to the internal firwire input on the motherboard. Drivers and everything is installed correctly. My problem is that if I increase the volume up or down, then hangs up the sound card and the sound goes off automatically. This suggests a firewire problem in Lion or the Apogee duet sound drivers that need to be updated? Tried to google this but found no solution to it.
Everything works superbly in Snow Leopard 10.6.7. Hardware you will find in my signature. Given the tight integration of the duets drivers into osx I think its likely that they need to update their drivers. But why dont you ask them directly? Got a reply now. Hi We have not yet released a driver for 10.7 for Duet. I can forward your email to our QA and Software teams for their reference when developing the software update. Thank you for the email Best, -Brian Brian Zarlenga APOGEE ELECTRONICS CORPORATION Tel 310.584.9394 Same issue here with the 10.7 GM release. Did you get any indication from them of when a Lion driver release is due? Also, any luck with a work-around for changing the volume? On mine, a volume change seems to sporadically work, but most of the time gets reset to what it was prior to attempting to change it, after the freeze/reset.
Same thing happens with the standard Apple volume controls, Maestro, and the hardware knob. Right now it's stuck on too loud.
Here are the latest reports we’ve received on what’s changed in Snow Leopard, and what compatibility issues you might encounter. We’ll be updating this page on an ongoing basis, and you may find useful comments from fellow readers on some of these posts. Hardware Apogee: Confirmed compatible Apogee of course has the luxury of not supporting Windows, so it comes as little surprise that they’re on top of Snow Leopard.
As of 8/28, Apogee released this official statement: Apogee Electronics is pleased to announce Snow Leopard compatibility for Duet, ONE, Mini-FW, USB and X-Firewire interfaces. Updated Apogee software is available immediately from our website here: New features of Snow Leopard-compatible Apogee software include:. Snow Leopard compatibility. A single version of Maestro is now compatible with all Apogee products, including ONE and X-Firewire-equipped interfaces. Symphony Mobile systems now support SBus connection.
Snow Leopard-compatible software for Ensemble will be released next week (by Sept.4th), while Symphony software and drivers will be released the following week (by Sept. Please check the Apogee website for further announcements. “Compatible,” however, doesn’t mean that no one will have issues – this is a new, relatively untested operating system. We have at least one report of a user having trouble with the Duet card. The Duet may not itself be the variable; we’ll keep an eye on this.

Updated: As of October 2, Symphony 64 is also compatible. Apogee’s latest statement: New features of Snow Leopard-compatible Apogee software include: Snow Leopard compatibility. A single version of Maestro is now compatible with all Apogee products. Symphony Mobile now compatible with SBus Avid/M-Audio: Updates coming in “coming weeks” From, no real news yet, but information expected soon (8/28/09): Avid/M-Audio is pleased to hear that Apple has released Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. We’ve been working closely with Apple to bring Snow Leopard support to the M-Audio® product line, as well as the Pro Tools® product line and extended product families. We ask that all existing Mac users please wait to upgrade until we officially announce Snow Leopard support. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.
Metric Halo: Confirmed compatible; driver updates available now with 64-bit support, too Metric Halo has updates for its hardware, and (while there’s no software to take advantage of it yet), even delivers on 64-bit support. Thanks to Geert Bevin for the tip! (8/29/09) MOTU: Confirmed compatible; driver updates available now See, released with 10.6 compatibility, and.
(8/28/09) Tascam: Testing in progress; driver updates coming Confirmed Compatible Tascam’s Jeff Laity was one of the early reports we got – with some initial wrinkles with USB (a reminder that you need to check for support.) As of September 2, however, all USB interfaces from Tascam have been certified for Snow Leopard. That includes the US-122L, US-144, and the US-1641. PreSonus Drivers: Beta available 8/28/09: After indications support might not be possible on launch day, PreSonus is coming through with “beta” drivers. (Note that “beta” might be a good way to consider support in general from any vendor, just because the OS is new!) Rick Naqvi of PreSonus tells CDM: Earlier in the week, I was told that we weren’t going to have Snow Leopard driver until October, but our engineers worked overtime the last week or so to release a beta driver that is fully functional. We have tested it internally and it is working well and allows for daisychaining of interfaces and full feature functionality.

In case it helps anyone else, I was scratching my head for a while when I seemed to have lost sound from Reaktor standalone after my 'Komplete 6' upgrade (which re-installed Reaktor to a new location). In the pull-down list, the 'Duet' does not get listed but if it is the 'Default' audio device (as it is for me) set in 'Audio Midi Settings' then it is the 'Built-in' in list. No other NI app does that that I remember (they all list a seperate 'Duet') and as I said there was no sound at first opening so I was trying to set it to 'Duet' but 'Duet' wasn't listed there. Just in case someone comes across this and does a search here, hoping it saves some hair! I'm having the same issue with my PreSonus FireBox. Installed the Komplete 6 upgrade and now my audio interface shows up as Built-in. I'm using OS X 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard).
I only noticed this because earlier today I attempted to start Reaktor while my FireBox was disconnected. That = immediate crash at startup. Oddly, however, after going into Audio & MIDI Setup and resetting all of my audio device options back to the 'Built-in Output' (i.e.
My MacBook Pro's speakers) I was able to open Reaktor, albeit sporadically. One time it would work, next time it would crash. After one successful start I then went into the Audio Settings in Reaktor and switched it to 'Built-in Output' from 'Built-in' which, while it was selected was no longer in the drop down. At that point the startup crashes stopped.
Not sure what Komplete 6 changed, but for some reason now the audio interface only shows up as 'Built-in' and it does not gracefully fall back to 'No audio device' or a different audio device if the 'Built-in' interface is disconnected. Was very frustrating while trying to figure it out. Hopefully this helps NI. Please let me know if you need more info. I have the same problem. I can't even pick my soundcard in audio device setup and the advice is to set it up as an Aggregate device? Well if you point your browser to Apogeedigital.com and read their Duet faq it says specifically NOT to setup the Duet as an Aggregate device.
Is this something that is going to be fixed? I worried that it is not as the Duet as been out for a long time now. Probably have to pay for Reaktor 6 to use a standard soundcard without having to use a workaround.
That IS NOT supported by the company who makes the soundcard. I have no problem selecting the Duet in all my other audio software programs. How can this be NI? I will send tech support an email as well. If this is not a top priority fix I would like a refund. This is unacceptable.
Todd edit: I am using leopard on a macbook. Click to expand.Just to clarify (and answer sowari's questions), Reaktor standalone IS working for me here, the problem for me was only it not being specified as the Duet and instead as 'Built-in' (Duet here is set as the 'Default Audio' device. So it was just a matter of labels, not a matter of not being able to access it.to those not having it work, let me know if you understand my set-up and I will put up screenshots up as to how it's working (Duet as default audio device, Reaktor set to 'Built-in') sowari, Reaktor was previously installed as a 'Reaktor 5' folder in 'Applications' folder. Komplete 6 created a 'Native Instruments' folder in 'Applications' (and left all previous version/installs alone for me to manually delete, I actually had two WORKING Reaktor 5.15's on same machine for a time!) which now contains all NI apps instead of them discreetly at top level of 'Applications. My previous installs/installers where a 'mutt' of upgrades from Komplete 3 (which was purchased as an owner of 7+ products before) update/upgrade options and special individual offers/deals.
10.5.8 (Leopard) Model Name: Mac Pro Model Identifier: MacPro4,1 Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz Number Of Processors: 2 Total Number Of Cores: 8 L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB L3 Cache (per processor): 8 MB Memory: 16 GB. It's working for me now after creating the aggregate device! Open your Applications - Utilities - Audio Midi Set Up.
Then I copied the instruction below from Help applications. Follow the instructions then you're problem is solved. Note: After clicking on the Add (+) botton, I choose the Aggregate Device as Apogee Duet - Open Reaktor 5 - Go to System - choose Audio + Midi Settings Apogee Duet will be listed. Combining multiple audio devices to work as one device If you have several audio devices, you can use them as a single device. For example, if you have an eight-channel audio device and a two-channel device, you can combine them to work as a single ten-channel device. In this way, you might combine several devices to provide the audio capacity you need without purchasing more expensive multi-channeled audio equipment.
To combine audio devices: Open Audio Midi Setup in the Applications/Utilities folder. Choose Audio Open Aggregate Device Editor. In the editor window, click the Add (+) button to create an aggregate device. You can select the device and rename it. In the Aggregate Device Structure list, click the Use checkbox of each device you want to include in the aggregate device.
The list shows the currently connected audio devices and the number of input and output channels for each. To set the clock of one device as the master clock for all the combined devices, click the Clock radio button beside the device name.
After selecting the devices you want combined, click Done. You can now choose the aggregate device from the Properties For pop-up menu and configure the input and output properties just as you can for a single device.
You must set the sample rate of the aggregate device to the same rate as the master. Build-in soundcard Because this seems to be the thread that is closest to my struggle, I post my problem here, hoping the thread hasn´t died yet. With the Aggregate Device, I am able to get Reaktor and the Apogee Duet to cooperate, but if the Duet is absent (say I´m on the train, or at the cabin.), and I wish to use the build in soundcard, Reaktor crashes on startup. It sometimes gives no message, sometimes '. St9allocbad' It would be very convenient to be able to build with only me (the music) and the laptop!
I´m om Osx 10.5.8, Macbook Pro 15', 4 GB ram. The solution Thank you all for pointing me to this solution: As sowari suggested, changing the audiodevice in Reaktor - settings did the trick for opening the program using the internal soundcard. This is a good workaround, although I don´t want to be forced to remember this all the time. After some testing, i found this solution: I created an Aggregate Device, featuring the Duet and the mac´s build-in IO.
The Duet is the clock source. Under settings, I told Reaktor to use this sound-device.
Now I can launch Reaktor with or without the Duet plugged in. The sound automatically goes to the output that is present; build-in or Duet.
And, if you pull out the Duet during a session, the sound repatches to the build-in speakers. (This doesn´t happen the other way around, though.) Now, I´m happy again, at last.
